Recent travels, round 1

We're packing up to leave Berlin, after a nearly two-week trip through southwestern England that ended up with a surprise bonus trip to Germany because of Dave's work schedule. Here are some of the early highlights of our trip:

The boys did surprisingly well on the flight to Heathrow, especially James. It was Thomas's first time in a plane, and he handled it quite well (moderate screaming on takeoff and landing, but it turns out that he was cutting a molar at the time which may not have helped). James was old enough to appreciate the delights of unlimited juice and television, and sat quietly in his seat the whole time.

The next day, though, we headed to Avebury (a site with stone circles a bit like Stonehenge's, but you can go right up to the rocks). James was beyond thrilled at the site, which featured not only the rocks, but an enormous expanse of grass to run around and around on. He also picked up two girls, Daisy and Niamhe (sp?). It's not every day that you can pick up a girl with the line "You are a diesel engine with pretty eyes, and I am a splendid red engine!" but James has now managed it. We thought we'd never entice him away from her.
