Pajama Day was a bust

James's school had Pajama Day this week, in which all the kids and teachers showed up for school in their PJs and slippers.

Relatedly, we discovered that he's increasingly becoming wedded to certain routines.

Wearing his pajamas to school completely threw him off. When I went to pick him up, his teacher told me that he hadn't wanted to play with his friends, take naps, or even eat lunch. (If you know James, you know it's almost impossible for him to be off his feed, so this last was especially surprising.) I figured the PJs might be the culprit, so changed him into daytime playclothes as soon as we got home. He cheered up immediately, and started clamoring for dinner.

His fondness for routine is particularly interesting since he loves travel and other new experiences -- he just needs them to be presented within a certain framework. One element of this framework is, apparently, that pajamas are worn only at night, and day clothes during the day. Another element is that Cheerios must be consumed within an hour of waking or chaos ensues.

Other current James activities include standing around using only one hand for balance, cruising fluidly along the edge of the coffee table, and taking steps holding onto our hands. It's only a matter of time before he starts walking. My little guy!
