Preschool

James started preschool last week, at a wonderful place in the Unitarian church behind our library. He'll be going two mornings a week, and will eat lunch there.

Our first drop-off went moderately well. James loved meeting the teachers and seeing the classroom, but balked (and by "balked" I mean "screamed the place down") when Thomas and I made to leave him there. Mrs. Zouzoulas calmed him down by showing him where the trucks were. I grabbed Thomas, who had been quietly playing with the puzzles while all this was going on, and got out while the getting was good.

Once acclimated, James loved the place. He just finds transitions hard. I'd also made the mistake of reading "Llama Llama Misses Mama" a week or two before school started. It's a good book, actually, but James took it to heart when the llama felt shy on his first day at school. I explained to James that the little llama ended up loving school, but James in his hysteria shouted "Llama Llama was crying too!" when I tried to remind him of this during his first drop-off.

I took Thomas back to the car with the lyrics of "Sunrise, Sunset" running through my mind. Dropping off a three-year-old at preschool is obviously much easier than dropping a three-month-old off at daycare, which James and I have done too, but it is hard to believe that the Little Guy is in school already.
