Augusta's recovery has been going smoothly enough that her OB suggested that she could go home today rather than tomorrow if she so chose. As nice as the nurses' help is, being in one's own bed--and not being awakened every few hours by people coming to check your blood pressure instead of just by one's newborn--is even nicer.

James, meanwhile, is behaving precisely as a newborn ought to, more or less as an alimentary canal that sleeps. But he does sleep, well, like a baby:




So today was the day for James's grand homecoming.

The day was crisp and cold: as of 9 am or so, it was 10 degrees F; by the time James actually made it outside, at about 11:30, it had warmed to a balmy 17 or so. After a trial run with the car seat, we bundled him up and headed home:





He appears to like the car; he conked right out. He also was completely unfazed by the cold; if anything, he was too warm while waiting in the hospital in his winter clothes (even though we didn't put the car seat cover or a hat on him until moments before going outside). But even while being carried from the car to the house in the cold and wind, he didn't wake up.

Everyone is getting slowly settled in, but we definitely made the right choice--it is so nice to be home.
