Mr. Busy

In the past few weeks, James has picked up all sorts of new tricks. First, he's learned to shift himself from sitting to all-fours and back again. This has led to all sorts of entertainment. (I see an object! I slide over and obtain it! I sit up again and analyze it, preferably by sticking it as far back as it can possibly go in my mouth!) Inspired by the fun of creeping a few inches to grab his toys, he has also started crawling commando-style (i.e., with his tummy on the floor). In the past 48 hours he's picked up an amount of speed that's both impressive and disturbing.

On the agenda for this weekend: getting on my hands and knees and crawling around the house in search of attractive nuisances and choking hazards.

He's also started developing a definite James language. This includes some words that also appear in English, but that don't necessarily have their English meanings when he uses them. Examples of this include "mamama" (I have a problem! I need something!), "dadada" or "bababa" (Yay! This is fun!), "neh! neh!" (I will not swallow this medicine), and "yaby" (we're not sure what this means, but it's the word he says most often when he's "reading" a book). Other James words include "bouffe" (food or drink) and "ah-BLAH!" (I am outraged by the liberties you are taking! Take me out of this carseat at once!). The greatest thing he says, though, is "Hiiiiiii." If I say "hi" back to him, he'll go on for several minutes exchanging greetings with me.
