Chocolate Cake! (Travis Is A Saint)
Our friends have been very nice about letting us bring James to their holiday parties, which he has enjoyed to the hilt. On Sunday night, we went to a party given by our friends Marc and Travis (Dave's college roommate and his husband). James loves Travis, and always wants to go and play with him.
On this occasion, James had his first taste of chocolate cake while hanging out with Uncle Travis. He loved it. (I might have known; I'm usually not that crazy about chocolate, but it was the food I longed for when I was pregnant with him.)
Travis made up a little song for James, which ran:
"Chocolate cake! Chocolate cake! Yay, yay, yay!
Chocolate cake! Chocolate cake! This is what I say:
One! Two! Three! Get in my belly!"
He and James danced around the room to it. Travis sang the lyrics, and James provided a little harmony of his own.
James was so excited about the cake -- and so thrilled by his dance with Travis -- that he offered Travis some of his most prized possession: a warm, moist morsel of cake that he'd been squeezing in his tiny hand. Travis -- who is a saint and a half -- took the offering in the spirit in which it was intended: He ate it with a smile and without hesitation. I thought James would burst with joy.
He's been offering me tastes of his food ever since.
