Summer travels, round 1

We just came back from a trip to New England, where we stopped in Boston for Dave's college reunion, then headed to the beach for a night, then had a delightful visit with Grandma and Grandpa in Connecticut.

James had an excellent time at the reunion family lunch, particularly since there were enormous pools of bubble soap on offer:

Another highlight of the trip was the phone in the hotel room:

James loved the beach -- it was the first time he'd seen a rocky shore -- and charged all around throwing rocks. He found the nicest skipping stone on the beach and presented it to a little red-headed girl who was there with her family. "Rock for you! Here!" He waded into the water, splashed about, tripped over a rock and went headlong into waist-deep water, was rescued, and charged back into the water more cautiously the second time.

In Boston, we bought toy pigs as a trip treat for the boys. James, in particular, took to his pig and has been an excellent parent to it. He feeds it (by pulling up his shirt so it can nurse), burps it, puts it down for a nap, and changes its diaper. It also sleeps by his side.

I forgot to mention that James has come out with several important pronouncements lately. In particular, he made an announcement about communion wafers that we should all keep in mind: "Cracker NOT TASTY."
