Down to the end of the town
One of my favorite outings with the boys is a trip downtown to the museums. Our favorite is probably the National Gallery; for James, this is largely because of the underground waterfall cafe with the gelato bar.
The boys' other favorite part of the trip is the Metro ride into the city, although James would enjoy it more if it were shorter. He likes boarding the train, entering and exiting tunnels, and stopping at a station or two. After that, he figures he's enjoyed it enough and starts asking "Done yet?" as we pull into each station. We also rode on a car with a staticky loudspeaker this time. James was vexed. "What's that noise?" he asked. "It's the loudspeaker making announcements." "Can't they get a softspeaker?" he asked.
