A Clean Bill of Health

James had his first visit to the pediatrician today. He was very well behaved--a little unhappy about being undressed, but willing to see reason as soon as he was wrapped up again. Everyone was suitably impressed with him; the nurse commented that he looked like a two-month-old. He's already started gaining weight again after the initial postnatal drop--he's up to 9 lbs., 5 oz., having been 8 lbs., 14 oz. when discharged from the hospital. (Apparently this turnaround is on the early side. Given his healthy appetite for milk and his increasing efficiency at feeding, we were not too surprised.) And he received a totally clean bill of health, the nurse practitioner commenting that this is exactly the sort of baby one wants to have. We're certainly glad to have him.

Here are some more photos showing his bright eyes; he's been showing more and more curiosity about the world around him, and now will often spend a little while sitting quietly, with his eyes wide open, just looking around.

Oh, he's so beautiful. And that adorable goofy-newborn facial expression just makes me giggle every time.
