Recent travels, round 7

After leaving Salisbury (which I was sad to do -- we stayed in the best hotel ever, a house out in the country with a beautiful garden and cheery yellow rooms, and I want to retire there when I'm old) we spent a night in Cambridge and then flew to Berlin. While Dave was at work the boys and I went to the Pergamonmuseum and hit a couple of German beer halls (the best place for lunch if you've got kids in tow).

The boys were almost distressingly sedate, though they made up for it by shrieking at the museum.

Today we went to the Bodemuseum, which turns out to have fabulous medieval and Renaissance art, including Donatello's relief of the Virgin and Child. I'd studied that as a college freshman, and was so happy to see it in real life. It was like meeting an imaginary friend who turns out to be real, if that makes any sense. After lunch at a place called the Twelve Apostles (which turns out to have a pizza named for each apostle and one for the Magdalene!), we went to the Neuesmuseum, which just reopened after 70 years. It was fantastic. The boys were troopers about their eight hours in museums. In fairness, we bribed them with ice cream.
