Inauguration Day
We had a fabulous time watching the inauguration (on TV... we did not brave the crowds downtown) with James and Thomas. Truth be told, James was tearing around on his ride-on train and Thomas was semiconscious, but they were at least present for the moment.
While President Obama (yay!) was making his speech, James was making a speech of his own. This speech addressed the horror of Thomas's occupation of Dad's lap, and ran as follows:
"No, Mas! This Dad, mine Dad, mine! No! Door, Mas!"
[Translation tips: "Mas" is James's current pronunciation of "Thomas," and "door" can mean either an actual door or, metaphorically, to go away or come back.]
At any rate, the speech was followed by a rousing chorus of yells (on James's part -- Thomas was perfectly content with the situation. He's always loved Dad, but has really discovered him in the past few days and now loves to nap on Dad's chest. James finds this totally unacceptable.)

As if we needed more proof that James is a genius -- I LOVE that "door" can mean both of those things. It's a noun, it's an abstract verb. Is it wrong to steal language from a toddler?
